Kamal Rahmouni, PhD
Professor
Biography
Dr. Rahmouni’s research focuses on molecular and cellular regulation of altered energy and glucose metabolism in obesity and diabetes. In collaboration with Drs. Norris, he has been studying how the autonomic circuits underlying the secretion of pancreatic polypeptide (PP/PPY) by pancreatic islets and the implications of this effect for glucose metabolism in CFRD. His group has used CF and PPY-KO ferret models to study these processes testing the hypothesis that altered activity of the autonomic nervous-mediated remodeling of CF pancreas contribute to the reduced PP secretion in CF humans and ferrets.
