Ian Thornell, PhD

Assistant Professor
Biography

Dr. Thornell is an Early-Stage Investigator and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa in the Lung Biology & Cystic Fibrosis Research Center. His long-term goals center around the understanding of how ion transport affects the pathogenesis of epithelial diseases. His laboratory studies ion transport using electrophysiological approaches in combination with fluorescent ion imaging techniques. Dr. Thornell is a new center member who can share his expertise in ion transport across epithelia with members of the Precision Medicine Center for CF His current research projects aim to advance our understanding of CFTR function in epithelia, what cell types can use CFTR to achieve physiological function, and how much CFTR is needed in these epithelia.
