Paul B. McCray, Jr., MD

Professor
Biography

Dr. McCray is a pulmonologist in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa. He serves as the Chief Scientific Officer for the Department of Pediatrics and holds joint appointments in the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology, and Internal Medicine. His research interests include airway innate immunity, epithelial cell biology, and the applications of genetic therapies for lung diseases. His laboratory has extensively used lentiviral and AAV vectors for gene addition to restore CFTR function. In addition, his group is using gene editing and base editing approaches to correct CFTR mutations in airway progenitor cell types. Dr. McCray is an elected member of ASCI, AAP, AAAS, and the AAM. He holds the Roy J. Carver Chair in Pulmonary Research and is supported by grants from the NIH and CFF.
