Viral and Non-Viral Vector Core

The overall objective of the Viral and Non-Viral Vector Core (VNVVC)is to support Precision Medicine Center members and the research community in generating and implementing gene delivery technologies. This includes consultation, development of novel delivery tools, collaborative testing of vectors for function and purity, and routine preparations of viral and non-viral vectors.

Essential Core Services

  • Research and Development
    • Facilitate a pipeline from vectors designed in silico to the physical product.
    • Generate new expression vectors as needed.
    • Develop improved methods for vector production.
    • Compare and contrast new technologies to established technologies.
  • Production
    • Assemble custom plasmids for generation of vectors that deliver transgenes, guide RNAs, shRNAs, or gene editing machinery.
    • Prepare recombinant vectors from an extensive and growing catalog.
    • Purify, titer, and perform quality control assays prior to vector dissemination.
  • Education
    • Present technology advances in joint lab meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and webinars.
    • Provide advice concerning the implementation of delivery vectors in study design.
    • Provide protocols and hands-on training for quantifying delivery and editing efficacy.
  • Materials archive
    • Maintain an itemized catalogue of vector stocks available for use.
    • Maintain a plasmid database of viral and nonviral expression vectors.
